Teaching Assistants for the GCI Summit 2020

Eligibility
  • Current college sophomore or above and/or at least 20 years old, recent college graduate or graduate student
  • Prior experience working with youth as a teacher, mentor or counselor
Commitment
  • Attend Teaching Assistant orientation at the University of St Andrews from July 20 - July 22, 2020
  • Work during the entire GCI Summit from July 23 - July 31, 2020
  • Stay for the debrief and wrap-up through August 1, 2020
  • Complete all pre- and any post-program requirements
What GCI is looking for
GCI is seeking proactive leaders who are enthusiastic for other cultures, interested in social entrepreneurship, have excellent oral and written communication and problem-solving skills. Past experiences which allowed you to live or travel extensively abroad, learn another language and/or interact with other cultures are preferred.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience as a camp counselor or college RA, or working with adolescents in a structured environment
  • Ability to lead group events and facilitate planned workshops
  • Comfortability with enforcing rules
  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Highly responsible and high energy, with ability to pivot
  • Preference will be given to GCI Ambassadors (former Fellows) and former TAs

Expectations During the Summit
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students
  • Serve as a role model for the Fellows 
  • Adapt to an intensive schedule with evolving projects and events 
  • Facilitate workshops focused on developing service projects and lead extracurricular activities 
  • Support Faculty during classroom sessions and assist speakers during events
  • Encourage Fellows to have ongoing discussion of topics and make connections
  • Execute program logistics and operations as instructed by the GCI Team, especially the Programs and Operations Manager
  • Assist students in standard dorm cleanliness

GCI is seeking proactive leaders who are enthusiastic for other cultures, have excellent oral and written communication and problem-solving skills. Past experiences which allowed you to live or travel extensively abroad, learn another language and/or interact with other cultures are preferred. Teaching Assistants must be able to attend orientation at the University of St Andrews in Scotland from July 20 - July 22, 2020, the entire GCI Summit from July 23 - July 31, 2020 and stay for the debrief and wrap-up through August 1, 2020. 

You will work closely with and receive coaching from the Programs and Operations Manager and the Chief Operating Officer of GCI. Please read the official job description for Teaching Assistants for the Summit 2020 here.

Compensation: GCI will offer a stipend for the Teaching Assistant work during the GCI Summit. The Orientation and Summit expenses, room and board and travel to/from and within St Andrews, Scotland will be covered by GCI.
