2024 GCI Fellowship

Eligibility


  • Secondary school students who are current Freshmen/9th, Sophomores/10th, or Juniors/11th graders at the time of application.
  • If applicant's first language or high school's language of instruction is not English, scores from the TOEFL iBT (over 95) or equivalent, accredited exam must be submitted.
  • In order to facilitate our curation of a unique participant group, it is GCI’s preference to not accept siblings to the same Fellowship year.
Commitment


  • Must commit to participate in the GCI Summit at the University of St Andrews in Scotland from July 20 to 28, 2024 in its entirety.
    • Click here to view an example "Schedule at a Glance" for the GCI Summit. The Summit is the in-person launchpad for the year-long commitment of the GCI Fellowship.
  • Must commit to the full yearlong Fellowship to launch a "Glocal" Service Project.
What GCI is looking for


  • Students with global leadership potential who want to make a positive change in the world
  • Students who are eager to participate in group discussions about global issues
  • Students who are interested in developing and launching a Glocal Service Project
Application Timeline

 October 2023: Application opens
 Monday, January 29, 2024 at 11:59 PM EST: Application closes
All application materials, including recommendations and parent/guardian forms, must be submitted.
 March 2024: Offer letters sent out
 Friday, March 29, 2024: Commitment to enroll due
 Monday, April 22, 2024: All enrollment forms and tuition due
 Friday, May 31, 2024: All medical and travel forms due
Tuition & Travel Costs


Tuition for the Fellowship is US$5,900
  • Includes Fellowship tuition, academic materials, activity fees, and Summit room and board.
  • All Fellows are required to house with the program for the duration of the Summit.
  • Travel expenses and travel insurance to the Summit are not included in tuition.
  • A limited amount of financial support to off-set tuition and/or travel is available to those who qualify. Financial Support request forms must be completed at the time of the application submission.

  • Essay questions
  • Recommendations
    • Please contact your recommenders as early as possible to allow them sufficient time to write and submit their recommendations. Recommendations must be submitted before you review and submit your full application prior to the application deadline.
    • You are required to submit the following recommendations:  
      • Teacher Recommendation
      • Second Recommendation from a teacher, school leader, guidance counselor, coach, club leader, employer, or supervisor
  • One-minute Introductory Video
  • Mid-Year School Report for the Current School Year
  • End of Year Report for the Previous School Year
  • A government or school Photo ID with applicant's name and date of birth
  • TOEFL iBT or other accredited English Language exam scores, if applicant's first language or high school's language of instruction is not English
  • Application fee US$30
    Please note that the application fee is waived for those applying for financial support. 
Parent/Guardian Materials and Requirements:
  • The application requires at least one parent/guardian to fill out a number of required forms. 
  • You will need to invite your parent(s)/guardian(s) as Collaborators in the Parent/Guardian Information task before they can complete required forms.
  • Your parent/guardian will need to provide the following information and documents in English; translations need not be paid for or official:
    • Contact information
    • If you are applying for financial support:
      • The primary household provider's most recently filed US Tax Return Form 1040, equivalent Non-US Tax Returns/Forms, or any similar documentation that verifies the primary provider's income and assets
      • If applicable, the secondary household provider's most recently filed US Tax Return Form 1040, equivalent Non-US Tax Returns/Forms, or any similar documentation that verifies the secondary provider's income and assets


The year-long GCI Fellowship begins with virtual orientation sessions leading up to the in-person Summit, GCI's flagship event, which will be hosted for the third year in a row at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. The Summit is a rigorous, academic, 9-day residential program using the GCI Method to promote global citizenship, ethical leadership and collaboration among a select group of international secondary school students, known as Fellows. Fellows identify and discuss pressing global issues based on the Sustainable Development Goals and develop projects ("Glocal Service Projects") to implement in their local communities over the course of the year-long program.

The application for the 2024 GCI Fellowship opens in October 2023 and closes on Monday, January 29, 2024 at 11:59 PM EST.
